Jonah Paquette, Psy.D.

Psychologist, Happiness Expert, Author, and Trainer

All of us want to be happy, and yet true happiness can be remarkably elusive. But for the first time in history, we now hold at our fingertips the necessary tools and techniques to lastingly increase our happiness. Better yet, becoming happier comes complete with a host of other benefits, including better health and job performance, and improved relationships.

I am a licensed psychologist, author, and speaker, specializing in the science of well-being. I provide workshops, keynote talks, media appearances, and consultation on the science of happiness. It's my passion to disseminate the science of well-being to a broad audience, including schools, businesses, professional organizations, and health professionals. Whether you are an individual or organization, it would be my sincere pleasure to work with you!

About Me

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where I lived until my early twenties. With much of my family remaining there, and growing up a die-hard Knicks and Yankees fan, it was difficult leaving the Big Apple. But like many people, I felt drawn to the West Coast, where new adventures awaited. After graduating college at Columbia University in 2004, I moved to California to start graduate school at the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in Palo Alto. For the next five years, I had the privilege of training in a variety of clinical settings, including VA hospitals, college counseling centers, and community mental health agencies. I also had the good fortune of being mentored by some of the leading psychiatrists and psychologists in the field.

Although the training I received during these years was invaluable, I couldn't help but feel that there was something missing from mainstream mental health approaches. Namely, there was (and remains) an incredible emphasis on illness, pathology, and suffering. But what about the other side of the coin? During graduate school, I began to supplement my traditional training by learning more about wellness, happiness, and psychological well-being. I stumbled across the burgeoning field of "positive psychology," which studies these topics as well as things like character strengths, virtue, and happiness. This interest soon developed into my passion, and remains so to this day.

Today, I wear two hats in my professional life. First, I am the manager of clinical training at a large HMO in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I oversee the mental health training programs across four medical centers in Northern California. And second, I provide trainings, consultations, and seminars on topics related to wellness, happiness, and reaching your full potential. In February 2015, I released my first book, entitled Real Happiness, a self-help book outlining seven proven paths to happiness and well-being. More recently in 2018, I released by second self-help booked, entitled The Happiness Toolbox, which provides an array of tools and handouts for both readers and practitioners alike. I'm currently working on my third book, which will focus on the experience of "awe." In the coming months, I'm excited to share more details about this.
